HOW THERAPY WORKS
Making initial contact is the first step in getting your child the support they need. This is started by the child's parents, teacher, or healthcare provider who may have concerns about the child's emotional or mental health.
Once the child and their family have scheduled an appointment with a clinician, they will undergo an intake and assessment process. This may involve filling out forms and questionnaires to provide information about the child's history, symptoms, and any previous counseling or medical treatments. The clinician will work with the child and their family to establish goals for counseling.
Counseling sessions may be individual, family, or group-based, depending on the child's needs and goals. This may include identifying specific emotional or behavioral challenges, such as anxiety, depression, or difficulty with social interactions. The clinician will work with the child to develop coping strategies, improve communication skills, and manage their emotions and behavior.
The clinician will regularly monitor the child's progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed. The child's family may also be involved in progress monitoring and may be asked to provide feedback on the child's behavior and emotional state.
Receiving counseling as a child involves a collaborative and goal-oriented approach that aims to help the child develop coping strategies, improve communication skills, and manage their emotions and behavior. By working with a qualified clinician, children can gain the tools they need to navigate the challenges of growing up and thrive in their personal and social lives.
